🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Month!
It's June, and that means it's time to celebrate Pride Month! We should all be embracing diversity, inclusion, and the spirit of equality all year round, but during Pride Month, we come together to amplify our support for the LGBTQ+ community and spread love in all its vibrant colors.
Pride Month is not just about parades and festivities (although we like those too), it's a time to honor the progress made toward equality, recognize the challenges that still exist, and stand with our LGBTQ+ friends, colleagues, and customers. We believe that everyone deserves to love and be loved, free from prejudice and discrimination.
Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally, we encourage you to make your clinic or workplace as inclusive for all as possible.
💊 90+ drugs move to prescription
On June 11th, as part of a multi faceted campaign by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 93 veterinary products that have been available over the counter will require a prescription. The objective of the change, and other similar measures, is to stop the overuse and misuse of antimicrobial drugs that are expediting pathogens' evolution toward resisting the medications.
According to the FDA, this last round of changes includes the last 4% of drugs - as 96% of “medically important antimicrobial drugs” used in nonhuman animals already have already been brought under veterinary oversight over the last decade.
🐶 Dog vision goes viral on Tik Tok
The latest trend on Tik Tok was not a new dance or a new viral sound but rather a bunch of muted colors and confused dog owners as the platform rolled out a ‘Dog Vision Filter’.
It has been pretty interesting to see the general public get a handle on what our canine friends may see through their two-cone retinas. Assuming that dogs are seeing similarly to humans with dichromatic vision, then dogs can distinguish blue and yellow but not red and green.
It is nice to see owners vow to only buy blue or yellow toys for their pups, in hopes of making the world a bit more interesting for them.
@kjlcreationsco This is so cool. I guess I need to buy more blue toys! #dogvision #dogvisionfilter #germanshepherd
And as this user noted, we may need to find a way to let dogs celebrate pride:
