Veterinary crisis receives mainstream coverage

The Headlines

Crisis Gets Mainstream Coverage

This week articles in The Guardian and Boston Globe highlighted some of the issues across the veterinary profession. The articles shared firm examples of how burnout, abuse and new pressures created by the COVID pet boom are affecting veterinary professionals. The Guardian specifically points to 3.2 million households in the UK which have acquired a pet since the start of COVID while the Globe notes that the average US veterinarian makes 1/2 of what a family medicine doctor makes. Hopefully the expanded mainstream media coverage leads to increased awareness, improved client behavior and systemic shifts within the industry.
