New and Noteworthy

$350 Million for Animal Crossings

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (aka $550 billion in new federal investment in America’s infrastructure) became law in the USA this week. Regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum, we hope that we can all agree there is at least one good piece of news in the bill. As

$350 million is earmarked for infrastructure related to wildlife crossings over freeways. This initiative will hopefully reduce the 12% of North American mammals who die as road kill each year.

South Korea aims to ban dog meat

After announcing his interest in banning dog meat in the country in September, South Korean President Moon Jai-in has announced that his cabinet will launch a formal discussion next week on how to proceed with actions to address the increasingly controversial dog meat industry. This will be the first time a Presidential cabinet will hold formal discussion on ending the practice.

Giving Season Gets an Early Start

This week, pet insurance company TruPanion

split between Not One More Vet and the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association to support two of the most important issues in our profession: mental health and DEI. However TruPanion's largest donation was in the form of 50,000 shares of stock MightyVet (currently worth approximately $6.8 million USD). These represent a jaw dropping level of support for the veterinary community.

Plus, our favourite twitter account,

, launched its charitable foundation this week.

aims to help hard-to-adopt dogs with medical or behavioural issues get adopted. We rate this foundation a 200/10. Congrats to Matt, Doug and the team running The 15/10 Foundation.

The 2021 Comedy Wildlife Photography

handed out this year's honors recently - with the top prize awarded to Ken Jensen for his photo of a Golden Silk Monkey in China finding himself in a precarious situation.

In hopes of brightening your day, here are some of the category winners as well:
